Since launching in 2009, Welcome to Yorkshire has significantly grown the county’s reputation both nationally and internationally. Working with thousands of members and local authority partners we have helped increase the county’s yearly value of tourism from £5.9 to £8 billion (2016). We’ve also been hugely supported by our Y30 partners, an exclusive group of some of Yorkshire’s biggest and most ambitious businesses. This has helped create thousands of new jobs with around 250,000 people now employed in the tourism industry.
History was made when Welcome to Yorkshire brought the world’s largest annual sporting event – the Tour de France – to Yorkshire in 2014 generating £102m for the local economy. It’s legacy event, the Tour de Yorkshire which see its fifth edition this May, generated more than £98 million for Yorkshire’s economy last year, had 2.6 million roadside spectators and was broadcast in 190 countries. Another legacy of the event is the Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries scheme, a winner of a prestigious Global Peace and Sport Award. Since its inception in 2015, the scheme where people can borrow bikes for free, has given almost 75,000 people the opportunity to ride a bike who wouldn’t previously have been able to.
“Welcome to Yorkshire is delighted to be partnering with Countryfile Live for its first visit to the North. Our stunning countryside is one of Yorkshire’s major selling points and we’re incredibly proud they have chosen the county as a host location for the show in August 2019. We can’t wait to welcome some of our home grown talent: Brian Turner, Anita Rani and John Craven back to the county.”

This nine-day competition will be televised to a global audience of 300 million people and will see top cyclists from across the world compete for the coveted World title.
